It's a costume charity walk. It's a carnival. It's a concert. It's the largest Boston festival in October. Over 10,000 people will see and be seen on Boston City Hall Plaza to benefit the Samaritans. Last year, the Samaritans took 100,000 local hotline calls to prevent suicide. Everyone is welcome to the free festival, with vendors, food, costume competitions, and $18,000 in prizes. Although the event starts with a daytime kids parade, when the sun sets, it switches into a adult charity walk and roaring party, with live music by "Lifted", "Jaggery", "Casey Desmond", and "Walter Sickert and the Army of Broken Toys". According to the Boston Globe, "Really, any fan of the Velvet Underground, the Dresden Dolls, or those haunted merry-go-rounds that turn up in horror movies shouldn't miss Walter and the Toys, who elegantly merge the essence of all three." Thrill the World will also come and lead the audience in a record-breaking dance of Michael Jackson's Thriller that will be synchronized with groups around the world. Registered walkers also get free access to a Halloween carnival, with 2 mechanical bulls, "human bowling", facepainting for kids and adults, temp tattoos, a giant slide,3 inflatable obstacle courses, a velcro wall, a free professional photo and video clip, and much more. But those who just show up can register on the spot for the carnival with a gift to the Samaritans (FREE to walkers, or $20 child/student, $30 adult donation). The 2009 Boston Monster March is Sunday, October 25, 2009, from 12-10pm, on Boston City Hall Plaza. See www.MonsterMarch.org and click "Press" for quick press facts and photos. The Samaritans are at www.samaritanshope.org and the event is sponsored by WeirdBostonEvents.org, the National Haunters Convention, Apr 29-May 2, 2010, and Radio 92.9.
